Afzetters / I almost got ripped off

Vandaag ga ik naar Lankawi. Een eiland aan de oost-kust van Maleisië waar geen belasting word geheven over goederen. Dat is best wel interessant dacht ik zo. De boot vanaf Penang waar ik me eerst bevond was al vol dus moest ik eerst met de bus naar Kuala Perlis om daar vervolgens de boot naar het eiland Lankawi te pakken. Gelukkig had ik een uur extra ingepland want de bus vertrok een half uur later. Uiteindelijk bereikte ik de haven waar ik mijn kaartje wilde laten uitprinten. Toen ik mijn ticket de dag er voor had geboekt werd er geen bevestigingsemail naar mijn mail adres gestuurd. Dus bij de bali vroeg ik of ze die nog even voor me wilde uitdraaien. Dat zou me dan 2 ringit gaan kosten, wat neer komt op 40 euro cent. Mijn eerste gedachten was: ja tuurlijk geen probleem natuurlijk betaal ik dat. Maar dat ik geen kaartje had was niet mijn schuld. Het internet systeem had mij niks getuurd dus kon ik het ook niet uitprinten. Ik werd even uit de rij gehaald omdat ik iedereen ophield. Ik stopte het geld waarmee ik al in mijn hand stond weer terug in mijn portemonnee en wachte rustig af. De vrouw gaf me de twee a-4tjes en zei weer dat ik 2 ringit moest betalen. In gebrekkig Engels zei ik dat ik geen email had ontvangen en dat het niet mijn schuld was. De vrouw aarselde even. Ze keek naar de wachtende rij met mensen en toen weer naar mij. Alsjeblieft je tickets, zei ze toen vanuit het niets. Ik keek haar vragend aan maar ze gebaarde me de tickets aan te nemen. Ik pakte de tickets en nam plaats op de boot. Dat was raar dacht ik. Eerst moest ik geld neerleggen voor 2 papiertjes en wanneer het er te moeilijk word gedaan stuur je me ineens weg. Iets zegt me dan dat je weet dat je fout zit.


Today Im going to Lankawi. Lankawi is an island of the east-coast of Malaysia where you don't have to pay any taxes. I was thinking, that's going to be interesting. I was staying in Penang and I was already to late for the trip that's going from Penang to Lankawi. Therefore I had to take the bus to Kuala Perlis and from Kuala Perlis the ferry to Lankawi. Luckily I planned some extra time into my schedule because the bus deparded 30 minutes late. In the end I arrived at the harbour where I wanted them to print my ticket. I booked my ticket the day before but they diddn't send me a confirmation e-mail so I wasn't able to print my ticket. At the counter I explained them my problem and they replied with that it would cost me 2 ringit, what is equal to 40 euro cents. My first thought was: sure no problem, I will pay for that. They took me out of the queue and told me to wait a moment. Than I started to realise that it wasn't my fault that I didn't had a ticket. They diddn't send it to me. The woman of the counter came back with the tickets and told me to pay 2 ringit. In my worst English posible I told her that it wasn't fare because you diddn't send me the tickets to my email. In a moment she looked at the persons in the queue and than back to me. I saw some doupts in her eyes and in all of a sudden she told me to take the tickets and that it was fine. I looked at her with questioning eyes but she gestured me to take the papers and leave. I took the papers and ditched myself into a seat on the boat. That was strange I thought to myself. First I have to pay money but than I don't cooperate and there is this presure from the queue and from out of the blue they are for free. Something tells me that you already knew you were wrong.
